A phased rollout of AI capability across Projectfusion, starting with an open MCP server launching late summer
Across UK law firms, councils, and NHS trusts, staff are already using AI on sensitive matters. Most are doing it on free personal accounts – no data processing agreement, no audit trail, no idea where the information ends up. That’s not a criticism. It’s what happens when genuinely useful technology arrives faster than IT policy. Projectfusion is the first UK AI data room to give organisations a proper alternative: your approved AI, connected to your data room, with full permission control and a complete audit trail. For organisations that haven’t yet chosen an AI tool, we’re building that in too – so that Projectfusion itself becomes the governed, EU-hosted environment where your documents live and AI works on them, without anything leaving a controlled space.
Why this matters
Law firms, councils, and NHS trusts have invested in AI tools – evaluating providers, agreeing data processing terms, and training their people on approved workflows. Until now, that investment stopped at the data room door. Projectfusion changes that: a secure, permission-aware connection that lets organisations bring the AI they have already chosen and approved, with every document access governed by the same strict permissions that protect the data room today.
Why we’re starting here
Some data room providers have chosen to build their own AI from the ground up. We’ve taken a different view. The frontier AI tools – the Claudes and ChatGPTs of the world – are simply the best AI available, built by organisations investing billions in capability that no single software vendor can replicate alone. Many of the organisations we work with have already made exactly that investment. Our job is to make sure it extends to their data room – securely, with full permission control, and without compromise.
That’s why our first release is the connection itself, not an AI product of our own.
What’s coming to your AI data room
Our first release, targeted for late summer, is the Model Context Protocol (MCP) server itself: secure, permission-aware access to documents, folders, and search, available to any connected AI client. Every access is logged and auditable, and nothing is visible to an AI tool that a user couldn’t already see themselves.
Beyond this first release, our roadmap extends further. For organisations that don’t yet have an AI tool of their own, we are building AI capability directly into Projectfusion’s UK AI data room – EU-hosted via Mistral la Plateforme, and available without needing a separate AI provider. More detail on what that looks like, and how it will be made available, will follow in a future update.
Built with confidentiality in mind
Connecting AI to a data room raises an obvious question: how do you do that safely? We’ve designed this first release around six controls.

| Read-only access | AI can search and retrieve, but not create, edit or delete documents. |
| Admin controls | Platform admins and room owners decide where AI access is enabled. |
| Owner opt-in | AI access is off by default – only the room owner can enable it, and they decide who can use it. |
| Permission-aware | AI can only access what the user could already see. |
| Original documents stay controlled | Users return to Projectfusion to view source files. |
| Separate audit trail | AI-initiated activity is logged separately, and access can be revoked at any time. |
The principle underneath all of this is simple: the AI can never see more than the user already could.
A foundation, not a finish line
We’re deliberately starting with the MCP server because it’s the foundation everything else builds on. It’s also, we believe, simply the right place to start: giving organisations the connection they need for the AI they’ve already chosen, before adding capability of our own.
